Single row female headers are available in various lengths with standard 2.54mm (0.1″) spacing. Pins are designed for soldering to a PCB. The female connector mates very well with break-away male headers with a standard length up to approximately 6mm in length.
For added flexibility, longer headers can be cut into shorter lengths, but you will probably lose one pin with each cut.
To ease soldering to a PCB, you can insert a male header into a solderless breadboard to keep the pins aligned during the soldering process.
